5 Solid Ways to Dramatically Increase Your Google AdSense Profits
Google AdSense is probably the most profitable of all the advertising companies out there. They pay the most per click and if you want to make some money, you should be using them. So far, I haven’t encountered anyone that has even come close to Google. Google runs relevant contextual ads on your website and pays you per click (and sometimes, per impression).
This sounds great, big money here I come. Not so fast, lets be realistic. It’s not going to come pouring in unless your ads are placed properly and intelligently.
However once you are successful, AdSense runs on auto-pilot. That’s the great thing about it. Set it up, refine it, re-work it, optimize it, re-work it again and you will reap the benefits.
Lightning Tip: There are a lot of important aspects that people overlook when starting AdSense. Remember to take the time to optimize, go back over your site, sit and think about how to improve your ad areas to increase clicks.
1. Streamline your ads and focus on color integration.
Make sure your ad link color matches the rest of your site. Create a custom palette. This is the best way to get tons of clicks. If you make the links different colors, it will not match and people won’t easily recognize them as links. Be sure to theme (color) your ads properly.
2. Large Rectangle (336X280) ad has the highest click through rate.
This is just from my individual knowledge and with the help of a couple of friends. We have experimented and it makes sense that this ad gets the most clicks, especially if you put it somewhere in the middle of a post, it is huge and the links stand out. It can work wonders for your clicks, use it!
3. Placement of ads is crucial, no ‘footer’ ads.
Ads on the bottom of the page get horrible clicks, don’t waste your space. Places that work best are sidebars and headers. Place wisely and make sure it flows with the design of your site.
Lightning Tip: Placement is everything, perfect placement = big earnings. Don't be afraid to experiment. Right sidebars (areas to the right of your content) and header are the best area to place your highest revenue ads.
4. Textual links work better than image ads.
Why? Because internet users relate images to advertisements, and are therefore more hesitant to click them. Text ads look like regular links (giving that illusion anyway) and in a way they ‘comfort’ people. It doesn’t look like an ad anymore, just like another link on your website.
5. Setup ad channels properly.
AdSense is your money horse. Track it properly, setup channels for each individual website and ad position properly. This seems like a no-brainer but a lot of people miss this step! For example: if your using a banner ad on the top for JohnDoe.com, create a channel for that add called johndoe_header_top. This will allow you to monitor which ads are getting the best clicks and also see which ads are under performing.
As a final note: always be willing to redefine and rework the layout of your ads. Some things will work better than others. Experiment. Run an advertisement in one spot for two weeks and then move it to another spot for two weeks. Gauge your traffic and see which one has had better percentages. Be open to change, nothing is perfect on the first try.
