There seems to be no posts here, so I'll start it off! I've had quite a few free hosts, many of which I didn't like and so on. I'll start from the beginning, and go on as my memory will permit...:
Freewebs.com - My first host, very small space, no FTP, built in HTML page maker, GREAT for the absolute beginner.
Tripod.com - Second, no FTP, BUT, file manager with HTTP uploads. Also nice for the beginner, also has blogs and stuff.
Tripod.co.uk - Allows FTP. First place where I had a forum!! I hosted a Star Trek vs. Star Wars (and many others vs. many others) forum. I had a few accounts here, all of which were forums which actually made it over 100 members! (still my record).
Jetsue.com - Great host, total FTP control, no we interface, just straight up everything is for you to create, really got me into writing HTML files in notepad! Went out of business.
At this point, I have yet to go through alot of hosts that lasted no more than a year, so I'll start with the latest I can remember...
DeccanHost.com - Still in service, BUT it's a "post-to-host" where you must post a certain amount each month to keep account, I am too lazy for that, so I left.
BigSpaceHosting.co.uk - Another great UK hoster. Although I had this host for about 4 days, I'm trying to get my account back. I used the last two to host my Blogger, because tghe standard blogspot.com had no password protection, and I don't speak too highly of some people there, and they found the link, so I had to shut down and move. These guys ripped my account out because "I didn't respond to an email" in which I never got. I hosted my proxy server (CGIProxy, JMarshall) and they didn't like that, so they terminated me. I told them I never got such email, asked for my account back, and told them no proxy... still awaiting reply...
And that's where I am today!!
Now it's your turn to tell us about your hosting experience.
