Note, I used Winamp Pro 5.54 for this tutorial. This can be found here [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]
First, you will want to have the best codecs that you can find. You can choose your own, but my recommendation is to get the K-Lite Codec Pack(Found [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]) Now, once the codecs and Winamp are all installed, run Winamp. (Note, I am using the Bento skin, as it is the default skin. I do, however, prefer the "Modern Skin" as it gives me the option to dock on top and view the Media Library and Playlist as separate windows.. You can use any mode you want, as everything is generally located in the same place) 1. Open the Media Library. Either press Alt+L or View > Media Library ![]() 2. Click on the Audio CD that you wish to rip on the Left Pane ![]() 3. Click the "Rip" button at the bottom of the window, and then select "CD Ripping Preferences..." ![]() 4. Choose where you want the files to be ripped to, and how you want the filenames to appear. The settings in the following image will make my files appear as: P:\Death Cab For Cutie - Plans (2005)\Death Cab For Cutie-01-Marching Bands Of Manhattan.m4a ![]() Tip: Putting a "\"(without quotes) in the filename will make Winamp create a new directory. <Trackartist>\<Album>\##-<Title> Will create the directories for the <Trackartist> and a subdirectory for <Album>. You can also put these in the destination box. P:\<Trackartist> - <Album> (<year>) in the destination input then <Trackartist>-##-<Title> in the naming input would do the same as my example does, only the playlist will be generated at the location of the Destination folder. If you want the playlist included in the folder, use this. If you want it in the base directory, do as the example suggests. 5. Click the "Encoder" tab to choose which codec you wish to use. MP3 and MP4 are recognized by most MP3 players. WMA by some as well(though less common). Choose the best one depending on how you plan on listening to them. For an MP3 player that supports it, I recommend what is in the example. For just playing on your computer I recommend Ogg Vorbis, as it (arguably) provides the best sound quality. ![]() 6. If you wish to have a playlist, click on Playlist Generation. It is fairly self-explanatory as to what each option does. Once done with that(if you chose to customize that) click close. 7. Now you have two options. Rip all tracks, or rip only tracks you want to rip. If you wish to rip only one or a few tracks, click on them and then choose "Rip" and "Rip Selected Tracks"(Note, to select more than one, use Ctrl+Click or highlight them by placing the cursor on an empty part of the list then hold the left mouse button while dragging over them. ![]() Winamp will display the progress of the ripping. It will appear on each as %: ###kbps at ##.#x realtime(ex: 67%: 256kbps at 15.4x realtime). This status updates every second. When it is each track is complete, it will show Complete, pending tracks will show Pending. When it is complete, the track list will appear as it did in the beginning. You can then browse to whereever you chose to save your files and play them. After completed, with the settings I chose, it appeared as: Code:
