Thread: is there a way i can read the hidden files from the phone?

  1. #1

Default is there a way i can read the hidden files from the phone?

im currently using lcg x-plore and some folders dont show up. i know this because when i pull the card out of my phone and read it with a card reader on the computer i see the other "hidden" folders.

is there an app that lets me read these folders fromt he phone.

the reason i ask is that one of my themes is not showing up in "applications" but i want to remove it. have to do it manually.
i could do it from the computer but i was just wondering if its possible from the phone.

    thanks.

Try using FExplorer, I think it shows all files...and processes too...

The hidden files and folders in x-plore can be visible when in the configuration panel (press 0 key in xplore) and select show hidden files and folders and system files and folders!

But for the Private folder and the sys ther's no chances almost they contains apps installations to open them.
In x-plore it simply cant be open in f-explore it says cant be opened for security reasons!

I find this trick, try it and good luck

access the PRIVATE/SYSTEM folder on the phone

    1. Change PRIVATE/SYSTEM folder to be visible (uncheck hidden in attributes by right click on folder) with card reader or usb mode.... click yes to all folders (without doing this trick also works)
    2. Open built in file manager
    3. Use find option and insert Private/System (for card not phone)
    4. Be patient and don`t interrupt the searching process..... and you should now see the private folder and be able to edit files in it and all subfolders....

Those two folders (private/system) are protected by the OS and can't be accessed. Symbian OS will block all attempts accessing this, but there are a way. You will have to hack the firmware so it don't need a certificate, then you could include the capability "AllFiles" which allows you to access any folder (I think..)

There are some hacks for some older phones with older firmware versions (such as N73, N80) but even hacking the firmware isn't possible anymore with newer phones and the newest firmware. Have a look for example at hxxp://www.symbaali.info/
So all in all it doesn't look very promising ...

hmm... pretty stupid of nokia to stop me from editting MY files on the phone. specially with this stupid themes-not-showing-up bug.
