UPDATE!!!
Dr. Leifs one of the Doctors treating Wayne Rooney gave this announcement... "Everything points to a perfect recovery. I have the highest hopes for Rooney and the World Cup. "I hope I can give a perfect answer after the next MRI scan on Thursday." When asked if rooney was knocking a football around yet he said "He is not allowed to do that or anything else that could make his foot worse before Thursday's examination," "But he can put pressure on his foot now with the special protection he is wearing" "I hope everything has healed well and I can say everything points in that direction" "This healing process has been very, very good." So Lets Hope for the best... The Word cup won't be the same without this lad... Cheers,

UPDATE
The results of Thursdays Scan are in and apparantly Rooney is recovering as expected... The bone appears as it would from the 4 weeks recovery time he has had... although it is almost 100% that he will not take part in the Group stages of the Tournament... IF England can avoid being knocked out and make it to the Knock-Out Stages of the Tournament it is likely that Rooney may be able to play some role in those matches... He will have a further Scan on June 14th to see if he can return to action...

![]() The next scan on Wayne Rooney's foot has been brought forward by seven days. The Manchester United star was due back in hospital on June 14, but he will now return on June 7 - his club have confirmed. The 20-year-old has already linked up with the England squad, ahead of the finals which begin next month. Rooney was not expected to return to training until after June 14 - but there could now be ramifications surrounding the new date. Should the scan be good news, then Rooney will be able to return to training earlier than previously expected and could indeed be used in the group stages by coach Sven Goran Eriksson. However, it will also give England a chance to call-up a replacement if needed - as the deadline for this is June 9 and an earlier scan means The Three Lions with have one last chance to assess the injury. "Following a meeting between England's medical team and Manchester United's medical team with both managers present it has been agreed to obtain a further precautionary CT scan on June 7 in order to help the England management to make a decision [on Rooney's fitness] before the deadline of June 9," said a statement issued by United. "Both parties agree that everything possible is being done to aid recovery of a fracture that involves the joint."

Nah, I think we have no chance with Rooney, if he plays he will damage it more. United wont like that...
Remeber how long Michael Owen was out for ?? 3 months was it ? I think it will be about the same for Wayne. So I really dont think he will be playing for us ! Even though he is in the Official world cup squad photo today !! (In the sun) I think thats just getting everybodys hopes ups !! Anyway I will miss most of world cup as in Thailand for 3 weeks ! watcha reckon to gerrard playing behind the two centre forwards ?? I think very good move, considering his form at the moment. Plus i think he has had a better season than Wayne... |

I am 50/50 On Rooney, (Owens Surgeon messed his foot up so he had the operation twice) I believe he will recover for the world cup but will he perform? Probably not... He could do more damage than good for the England Team by playing not fully fit...
I don't like the Gerrard Idea I think he is more at home in that advanced midfield role... Crouch has impressed me though and I would start with him & Owen... The rest of the team picks it's self...
