DAVID BECKHAM’S Real Madrid future was last night plunged into serious doubt after president Florentino Perez quit. Perez left following an emergency board meeting called because of the 2-1 defeat to struggling Real Mallorca on Sunday.
Now Becks, 30, could also be on his way out at the end of the season with a new president likely to enforce major changes.
The England skipper became Perez’s fourth signing in 2003 after a £25million switch from Manchester United.
He has just one season left on his contract and talks over a new deal have been thrown into chaos by Perez’s exit.
Beckham revealed just last week before Real were beaten by Arsenal in the Champions League that he believed he was on the verge of coming to an agreement with Perez to commit the rest of his career to Real.
But the midfield star is likely to be one of the first players to feel a backlash along with Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane as a new regime prepares to seize control at the Bernabeu following elections and start a major clear out.
Beckham’s arrival was supposed to bring to fruition Perez’s plan of total domination on and off the pitch.
Perez succeeded in establishing Real as the highest earning club in the world ahead of Manchester United thanks to an aggressive marketing policy in the Far East based on using Beckham’s image to sell shirts.

But on the pitch Real have stumbled from one season of failure to the next and are heading for a
THIRD campaign without a trophy for the first time since 1954.
They trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by a massive 10 points and were knocked out of the Spanish Cup semi-final by Real Zaragoza following a humiliating 6-1 first leg defeat.
And Perez looks to have chosen to fall on his sword before his misery was completely compounded with a Champions League exit against Arsenal on the cards following last week’s 1-0 loss at the Bernabeu.
