Question Should Players be Red Carded for Verbal abuse? - Your View

Synopsis

Zidane is apparently the second player to headbutt MARCO MATERAZZI
he was floored by Andriy Shevchenko only last year but avoided punishment!!!

FIFA are currently investigating what caused zidanes extraordinary reaction to Marco Materazzi comments and if found guilty of provoking zidane he will face a Ban

It is Rumoured that he called Zidane a Terrorist!!!

My View

The recent scandals in the press with regard to Zidanes sending off have me a little concered...

Could this whole situation have been avoided if the verbal abuse was cut off at the source? I mean lets face it it's gamesmanship and should not be part of our Football...

Surely if the ref hears a player giving another player a hard time he should take some action...

Maybe a Yellow card or for pursistant offenders a RED!!!

It's a shame that such a wonderful players career swan song is disruped by another players disrespect for the game...

If an player verbally abuses a referee/official or even disagrees/argues with him he will surely get a yellow card and maybe a red... but players receive no punishment for this...

This is not a new thing though I remember the days when player used to pull the hairs on the arms of players while shaking their hand with the other to give the referee the impression that the player was one to watch carefully...

This problem has reached extemes now though and surely it is a problem that should be addressed...

There will be no encore for Zidane, his time is up, and thats a very sad thing...

Whats your view?

Cheers,

I think Yes .. because some situations oblige to use RED cards .. but with moderation .. we have observed that the Red cards in this Mondial was excessives , the player didnt know What to do ! and what not to do .. it was to confused to theme ..
Instead of that the existence of Red cards is a good option in some situations

But FIFA have said that they will Ban MARCO MATERAZZI if he is found to have provoked Zidane...

So FIFA's Stance on this matter is very clear - It's not acceptable...

MARCO MATERAZZI gave a brief statement

Materazzi, 32, told Italian daily sports paper Gazzetta Dello Sport: "I held his shirt for a few seconds only, then he turned to me and talked to me, jeering.

"He looked at me with a huge arrogance and said, `If you really want my shirt I'll give it to you afterwards'. I replied with an insult, that's true."

Materazzi has not elaborated on what he did say, but one report suggested he responded to this with: `I'd rather take the shirt off your wife'.

He has denied, however, some of the more vile insults being reported which refer to Zidane's wife or sister or calling him a terrorist.

"It was one of those insults you're told dozens of times and that you often let fall on a pitch," Materazzi said.

"I did not call him a terrorist. I am not a cultured person and I don't even know what an Islamist terrorist is."

He added: "For me the mother is sacred, you know that."
Any comments made will be a key element in Fifa's investigation.

Red face Shocking

The BBC's Ten O'Clock News called in experts to study the television footage of the incident and determined the following:

Materazzi's first word to Zidane was "no" before he then told him to "calm down".

He then accused him of being a "liar" and wished "an ugly death to you and your family"

on the day the Frenchman's mother had been taken to hospital ill.

This was followed by "Go **** yourself".

Zidane's agent, Alain Migliaccio, has hinted that Zidane will soon reveal exactly what was said by Materazzi.

Apparantly Zidane will reveal all on french television tonight at 19:00 BST

Default You just can't stop it

Looking back I'm not proud, but I have done the same thing when playing sunday league Football. Who am I kidding. It was nasty and maliscious but HELL YEAH I'm proud of it. I still brag about it now, 10 years after it happened.

Make enough little remarks to a player and eventually he will snap. The guy I did it to was kind of nasty and I had issues wth him off the pitch. He was kind of puny so he didn't break my jaw when he hit me. But it worked for me.

The only reason I did this was because there was absolutely no way of getting caught. So even though I spent 70 minutes telling a man how much I liked his girlfriend and how many ways she takes it and not forgetting details of the carnal relationship between him and his sister, what the Referee saw was a random outburst and a punch in the face which was assumed to be in retaliation to the stud to calf tackle I inflicted upon him.

And just to rub salt into the wound I even told him how he would spend his time alone in the shower after he was dismissed for violent conduct. I did get warned about the hard tackle though, but i got what I wanted.

There are more languages spoken on the average top flight football pitch than in any square km of London. The only way to solve this probelem is to teach Refs to lipread in 15 different languages. It will never work

i think players should get red cards and then banned, say if beckham fouled
henry who then broke his leg, and got no red card. that should be a red card and
should be banned for a while, anyone agree with me.

As far as I know, In a court of law there is a difference between a straight forward assault and an attack under provocation. If you provoke an attack you deserve everything you get. Don't forget these people are extremely competitive, which will make tem highly sprung at the best of times. If you have any siblings you will know what provocation and retaliation is all about. And as I posted before most people who were punished for fouls on me only did it because they been mentally ground down to the point where their next reaction is a big reaction. (ie shouting and violence)
