Yes it's an aggresive game, but there's a difference between sporting aggresion and malice. A two footed slide at the winger you couldn't keep up with is the aggresion o a man who wants to win. Winding a player up with viscious personal comments, is nothing to do with sporting aggresion. At the end of the day verbal abuse should be treated the same way as the violent behaviour it provokes as the only reason players do it is to provoke a reaction.

I can only take it that these are the words of a man who either doesn't take much to beat, doesn't play to win or only ever plays non-contact sports. An easy opponent is easily overcomeout-run and tackled. Not much passion to win needed. No need for a last ditch lunge. No Frustration. No Effort needed. However, put up a bit of a challenge play like a man against a man and it's a different story.
Certain elements of the game involve a bit of manly roughness. Breaking rules isn't just about cheating. It's about wanting to win. So you miss the ball and get the player. Big Deal. Instead of rolling about the floor like a £6,000,000 pansy. you get up brush, down and play ball. You can't tell me that if you were outrun during a game you would just let your opponent just jog on past you and make no effort to stop him. |
