The PlayStation 3 rumour mill grinds on – with the latest rumblings claiming pre-owned games will be useless, as the console uses heavy protection to stop second hand sales.
The games giant could use the technology to protect its sales of new titles, selling console owners licences to play, rather than the game itself, meaning one disc per console – that’s it.
Sony has denied the rumours, but has already patented the system – a fact which leads several fan sites to claim the company wants to close down second hand sales.
Details of the protection system are scarce – with some claiming high street shops have already been told not to sell pre-owned games, while Sony itself states the speculation is unfounded.
Either way, it’s something to watch in the coming months – not least because, if true, a broken PS3 could render your game collection useless.
Thanks
