The PSP will now be able to play AAC tracks. Sony releases version 2.7 for download, adding Flash and AAC support and paving the way for LocationFree TV. Attention, PSP owners: head on over to [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...] and you’ll be able to download an updated version of the console’s firmware. This makes a number of changes to the PSP, adding support for several new audio formats (including Apple’s AAC, used by your iPod), the ability to view Flash movies on the web browser and, er, Chinese language support. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that it prepares the PSP for Sony’s forthcoming LocationFree TV service, due for launch in May. This service will allow you to record TV shows at home (you need a special box to do this), then send the video over the internet for download to your PSP. The idea is that you can keep up to date with your favourite programmes, even if you happen to be on the other side of the world. Like those before it, this update also improves security – so it’ll render all your homebrew software useless.

I think is better stay on 1.5 version and run a lot of homebrew software. I enjoy playing donkey Kong Country on snes emulator and Sonic on genessis emulator and of course enjoy the psp games... so I don't need the upgrade, but there are new programs that give access with the 2.6 to play hombrew like fanjita's loader, i don't check it, but some people say that this software helps to run emulators and hundreds of programs... maybe if this works only if it works we can upgrade our systems.

Sony has released a new firmware update to the PlayStation Portable that leaps from the 2.70 version to 2.71.
There are two changes with this system update. First, game demos can now be downloaded and saved on the memory Stick. The second update allows video to be displayed correctly when an external tuner is selected in the LocationFree player. Currently this update -- along with a demo of the upcoming adorable action game, LocoRoco -- is available through the official PSP website... Thanks IGN
