Rumour has it Sony's still working out the kinks in Blu-Ray...
As the gadget world prepares itself for the inevitable next-gen disc format war, the Internet is buzzing with talk of severe delays in the production of Blu-ray player components.
Apparently, several manufacturers in the Blu-ray camp (Philips, BenQ and Lite-On) are a mite concerned over the fact that the producers of the necessary blue laser diodes - Sony and Nichia - are only able to make small quantities due to technical obstacles.
Sony is one company with a hell of a lot riding on the success of Blu-ray, and will clearly be keen to ensure that production of its Blu-ray toting Playstation 3 console goes to plan.
Trouble is, we're hearing of production problems for the PS3's Cell processor too - with between 80% and 90% of the chips failing Sony's high quality control checks, rendering them useless for the new console.
Lets hope Sony can iron out the kinks in both Cell and Blu-Ray before too long. The clock is ticking, and there'll be trouble if we don't get our hands on a PS3 come 17/11/06.
