When someone says the word “scotty”, you think of two things: small furry dogs and that bloke from Star Trek. But that could all be set to change thanks to this new portable solar panel.


The Scotty clips to your belt or rucksack, where it converts the sun’s bountiful rays into power for a range of connected devices. It’ll work with iPods, digital cameras and mobile phones. A full charge will reportedly give your mobile an hour’s talktime and 60 hours of standby, which ain’t bad for something that sits in the palm of your hand and doesn’t cost you a penny.


Well, that’s not totally true: you’ll have to shell out an initial £35 for the Scotty, which is being sold in branches of Maplin...

and youll have to be out in the sun at least for it to charge properly. it sounds good for those travellers or like that. but i think the conventional electric charger is better if your not going out that much.

yeah, IMO, best go for the conventional type travel charger. but this could be put in good use let say for example u go on mountain climbing or trekking.... ideally suited for people who are always on the move and uses their mobile phones a lot...
