    i don't know exactly the differences but as far as i know soft format is similar to restore factory settings & the user area will remain intact but hard format will delete every thing
    so it is wise to start wth a soft format & if not successful proceed to hard format

    @twcheang;@Shrink
    Hai. I think both of them is the same function.But, hard format can fix the phone who got a contact retail problem,blink 4 times ,etc.I use hard format to format the phone that cannot boot up.And Soft Format i use to format the phone that can booting so i can entered *#7370#.

    Hard & soft format is not the code to restore factory settings.
    To restore factory settings is *#7780# than security code.
    To do soft format is *#7370# than security code
    BUT..............
    To do hard format is press 3 key in the same time just like pappi said.
    That all i think.
    I'm sorry if my english was so bad.

    @nigeria_rocks

    Hai! Are u sure *#7780# it's not difference wih*#7370#?
    I think that so difference.*#7780# is just to set back the setting of your phone to factory setting.It doesn't delete any data (as photo,song or etc in galeri) in your phone.But if *#7370#, It will delete every data you got in galeri, including the setting of your phone (as wallpaper or theme or etc).

    The point is :
    *#7780# is similiar with reset to factory setting.
    *#7370# is code to reset all files, all setting as like you buy a new phone.

    that are my opinion.

    if you use hard formatting, you have to shot off your phone first. Press d call key, 3 key, and the * key at d same time and then press the power on.

    There is nothing like Hard or Soft Formatting!
    Believe Me! There are some Extra smart internet idiots who says all that.
    What is Restoring Original Phone Settings, they call it soft formatting and what is Re-Assembling of OS via ROM is Hard formatting.
    There is just FORMATTING, Just the word FORMATTING which refers to Re-Assembling of OS via ROM.
