hmm... what is this all about? ca sum1 explain this in layman's term. thanks. i have Widcomm Bluetooth Software 4.0.1.700 which came together with my driver for a Bluetooth Class 1(100m) dongle... i've been using it for a month now.

(Translation is really dire! lol)

Basically it is a driver software that enables and manages Bluetooth connections to and from a PC.

As it is only bundled with certain Bluetooth adapters and locked to only work with them, someone has managed to bypass that security with a patch to make it work with AFAIK any Bluetooth adapter. Obviously this is illegal and I know of at least 1 popular [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...] that was asked to remove it by [Only Registered users can see links . The other option you have in WinXP SP2 is the Windows Bluetooth software which does not have the variety of functionality that WIDCOMM offers. WIDCOMM is also updated to include new types of hardware etc which to my knowledge the SP2 one isnt.
The only gripe I have with WIDCOMM is that it takes up loads of RAM and loads alot of applications on startup which it requires to work whilst the SP2 just loads 1 and takes up only 5MB!

If you have used Blue Manager 3.0+ (another Bluetooth driver software) you will know what a complete rubbish waste of time application it is. Some of the menus arent even translated into English from Chinese and it is prone to crashes and disconnects requiring the PC to be rebooted to enable Bluetooth connections again. It is one of the most frustrating apps I have ever used!
So naturally you would want a much better and stable application to replace this.

Personally I use SP2 built-in as I only use Bluetooth for file transfers/connection to Winamp.

The same [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...] did offer a firmware upgrade to flash your adapter to the latest generic WIDCOMM firmware but that seems to have been taken down also.

Iam using Broadcom2035B chipset bluetooth dongle with widcomm 4.0.1.700 drivers. after installing i plugged in the dongle in to the USB. I followed dame procedure as in the manual. bus still the bluetooth icon displayed is(blue-red). it is not active.
some one please help me out, how to install the drivers, and how to activate dongle.
please writein detail, i tried all the threads, but still struggling.
