Default QUESTION - transferring programs between microSD cards

Hey Everyone-

I am learning bit-by-bit but have kind of a noob question...

I am the recent proud owner of a Sprint HTC Touch after having been a long-time Cingular/AT&T customer. I weaseled my way into the SERO program because I couldn't resist the bang-per-buck. I hope the coverage (here in the Buffalo area) doesn't let me down. I am still in my first "decision" month and so far so good.

Anyway, I have been attaining the software I will be using, but have only installed some of the smaller apps onto the device itself. I plan on putting the larger apps, games, etc. onto the microSD card, but thought I should wait til the 8GB card that I ordered arrives instead of putting them on the included 512MB card. But the card is coming from CA, is not here yet, and I am impatient to try some of the new stuff. It just struck me that I could load some things onto the smaller card and then just do a complete data transfer to the bigger card when it gets here since all the files that needed to be on the device in Windows wouldn't be affected. Am I way off here or is this doable?

Also, are there any general guidelines or tips as to what types of apps should always be put on the device regardless? I will likely be using some SPB titles - Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus, Time etc.

Many thanks in advance for any offered help! I am looking forward to really using this thing and posting more in the future.

Best Regards,
krautdog

Once upon a time i had a 1gb microSD card... some months later i purchased a 6gb microSD card an i had to figure out how to get the applications and etc over completely..
so what i did was that i opened Windows xp (works on vista too and other os'es) and inserted the memorycard to the pc... suddenly without a doubt i pressed Start/accessories/systemtool/backup ... i used windows to take a backup of my memory card and then i loaded the backup on the new memorycard and absolutely all were copied with success... and i lived happily ever after...

The End!

Spike thanks for the testimonial. I was hoping that would work. I'm gonna give it a go tonight or tomorrow and load up some things on the small card.

Do you (or anyone else) know if there are certain types of apps that are still best to put in main memory? I don't know, I guess I'm thinking of things like Pocket Plus that are very involved in the unit's operation.

Many Thanks again! -kd

i usually install the largest applications on my memorycard and those which are very small and useful on my phone memory,,.. very important applications i install on my phone memory and i use the card for games...those who requires to be installed on the phone memory has to be installed there and as far as i see there are no problem doing that...
or else i use the memory card to music and movies....
