Thumbs down Every man has right to keep and bear arms

Quote:
FIREARM FACTS
Guns in the United States - Easy Access to Deadly Weapons
• There are approximately 192 million privately owned firearms in the U.S. - 65 million of
which are handguns.[1]
• Currently, an estimated 39% of households have a gun, while 24% have a handgun.[2]
• In 1998 alone, licensed firearms dealers sold an estimated 4.4 million guns, 1.7 million of
which were handguns.[3] Additionally, it is estimated that 1 to 3 million guns change
hands in the secondary market each year, and many of these sales are not regulated.[4]
Gun Deaths and Injury - The United States Leads the World in Firearm Violence
• In 2004, 29,569 people in the United States died from firearm-related deaths – 11,624
(39%) of those were murdered; 16,750 (57%) were suicides; 649 (2.2%) were accidents;
and in 235 (.8%) the intent was unknown. [5] In comparison, 33,651 Americans were
killed in the Korean War and 58,193 Americans were killed in the Vietnam War.[6]
• For every firearm fatality in the United States in 2005, there were estimated to be more
than two non-fatal firearm injuries.[7]
• In 2004, firearms were used to murder 56 people in Australia, 184 people in Canada, 73
people in England and Wales, 5 people in New Zealand, and 37 people in Sweden.[8] In
comparison, firearms were used tomurder 11,344 people in the United States.[9]
• In 2005, there were only 143 justifiable homicides by private citizens using handguns in
the United States.[10]
Gun Violence - Young Lives Cut Short
• In 2004, nearly 8 children and teenagers, ages 19 and under, were killed with guns
everyday.[11]
• In 2004, firearm homicide was the second leading cause of injury death for men and
women 10-24 years of age - second only to motor vehicle crashes.[12]
• In 2004, firearm homicide was the leading cause of death for black males ages 15-34.[13]
• From 1999 through 2004, an average of 916 children and teenagers took their own lives
with guns each year.[14]
• Each year during 1993 through 1997, an average of 1,621 murderers who had not
reached their 18th birthdays took someone's life with a gun.[15]
Guns in the Home - A Greater Risk to Family and Friends
• For every time a gun is used in a home in a legally-justifiable shooting there are 22
criminal, unintentional, and suicide-related shootings.[16]
• The presence of a gun in the home triples the risk of homicide in the home.[17]
• The presence of a gun in the home increases the risk of suicide fivefold.[18]

Peacefully looking man holding 12.7mm [50cal.] anti-materiel gun
anti-materiel weapon:Rifles (mostly snipers), with caliber 12.7 or higher, used to penetrate all kinds of armoured vehicles or to "take out" human targets behind the cover(walls, light bunkers, armoured vehicles). All 12.7 caliber weapons are banned by UN to be directly used on human targets even on battlefields, BUT IF YOU ARE THE CITIZEN OF USA, YOU CAN GET ONE(OR MORE) FOR HUNTING OR PROTECTING YOUR FAMILY- But when shooting the burglar in your home, be careful not to shoot member of your family, neighbour or yourself becouse large caliber weapons are dangerous to be used in close-quarter combat + they CAN penetrate 0,5meter tick walls from up to 200meter distance

WHEN SOMEBODY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT HIS OWN NATION, HOW WOULD THAT PERSON CARE ABOUT THE REST OF THE WORLD?

FYI, the UN may have banned the 50CAL for use in the battle field, but I can tell you from experience they are still in use. Canada provided alot of sniper support in Iraq and one of the weapons we used was a 50CAL.

However, the insurgents that are attacking NATO forces use RPG's instead.

Go figure

I know, in Israel vs Palestina war too. But occasions of war are something far too different than civil use for "self-protection" right???
P.S: In Iraq terrorist could be in some kind of light armored vehicle or behind cover, but neither bulglair in somebodys home, neither deer or hog won't be driving one...

How come that Canada, which is so close to USA(I mean geographically-culturally you're way above), managed to stay peacfull and civilised nation?( I mean without gangs, "storm" troopers or some rednecks like NRA AND I'M GLAD FOR THAT)

Simple answer, we do not have a president. We have a government made up of individuals who are responsible for their actions. Dont get me wrong though, we have our share of nutcases too. The gun laws are more stricter in Canada now.

What an interesting post - guns quite obviously suck, people with guns suck, people who sell guns suck - curious how the guys with guns usually kill guys with no guns i.e; Isreal - Palestine; some guys get guns off the world's best peace keeper (no names; Uncle Sam) and turn their evil weapons against kids with sticks and stones - no names again but none needed; "this land belongs to us now"
"but my family has farmed this land for the last 800 years.."
"look, go away or I'll shoot you!"

"Ahh but firepower helps to stop our backward thinking enemies from getting too big for their boots - we can stop nasty regimes from harming innocent civilians..." ROTFL(not actually funny) coz the last statement should read: "Ahh but firepower helps to stop our backward thinking enemies from keeping what is rightfully theirs" - ok they have have valuable resourses and they can put our monetary system to the bottom of the pile very easily (sell oil for euros instead of dollars = kill them and take their oil - with the use of guns of course).

"Ok, you might have picked up on a bit of a negative point regarding abuse of power, but MIGHT = RIGHT, and when we of the civilized world see the basic human rights of innocent civilians being ignored and witness genocide, rape and torture: THEN we can use our FIREPOWER to put things right!"

"Ok your big guns, tanks and missiles may have found some kind of justification here, if you guys that are armed to the teeth are able to genuinely protect the innocent and oppressed from the brutality they suffer, then guns and missiles and tanks and guns may have some place in the modern world"

"Cool, so it's agreed, GUNS ROCK - we can without batting an eyelid kill bad people and protect innocent weedy wimps!!!"

"Yep kill the bad guys - it has to be done they deserve to die - picking on unarmed poor folk"

"Poor folk??? No OIL??? No pillagable resourses??? Let them eat cake!!!"

We could go on all night here; if it wasn't for the gun.... etc, etc, ... then we'll NUKE you mothers... here cop for some depleted uranium coated shells - this cr*p will float about for the next 100,000 years and every generation for the rest of humankind will suffer congenital deformaties! You thought Hiroshima was bad you aint seen nothing yet "Fat Boy"!!!

Apologies for this post - but unless human beings can progress past the point of killing each other for greed or whatever silly reason we may try to justify our pathetic behaviour with, then we, as a race are ultimately facing eventual extinction!!

Who needs a carbon footprint when we have guns, bombs and missiles?

If there were 29 million households in the US that would equate to 1 death per 1000 households. There are more than 29 million households in the US.

Not too shabby. Guns don't load themselves. People load guns. Guns don't shoot by themselves. People shoot guns. Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

42,636 people died in auto accidents. We should ban those too.

Firstly. . . that bottom image has been photoshoped. . . . and badly at that. . . my dog could do a better job.

with the important stuff out the way , simply. . . Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

seriously, would you honestly give the guy in the second picture a loaded gun?. . no, I wouldn't either. he can't manage to put socks on correctly, i personally wouldn't trust him with a wooden spoon. . .

I'm 24, I've been handling live firing rifles since the age of 13, I've been trained how to fire, respect, take care of and most importantly use safely, I've shot every thing for a .22 rim-fire, 12 gauge shotgun to a 5.56 British army SA-80 rifle, now because i've had access to these types of "weapons" it doesn't mean I'm going to climb the nearest church tower and start sniping people

the subtle point I'm trying to make is , give a f**kwit a gun/rifle. . . someone's going to get hurt

*mini rant over*

Well, I don't think that last photo is photoshpped...
Fact IS that many people there actually legaly posses 50cal weapons for so called "home protection".

Quote:

Yeah, youre right-But if some redneck like those on pictures, whitouth any training and respect to anything or anybody, get a 12gauge shotgun or M-16, he will probably go out for little "bowling for Columbine".( Do you had similar thing like Columbine massacre there in England???WELL, I DON'T THINK SO.)

You are right, GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, BUT STUPID JACKASSES DO!

P.S: Check on net for the last picture, IT IS NOT PHOTOSHPED. Actally that's some kind of "custum made" 50cal(similar rifles were used in WWII as anti-tank weapons) rifle and that's the reason you think it's montaged

And one more thing...You're from England, right? Did you know that IRA(I'm sure you know what IRA is) had bought one of 50cal sniper rifles(Barrett to be more precise, class:anti-materiel rifle SEE THE PICTURE BELLOW) legaly in american shop, then smuggled the gun in GB and used it to kill cops (years passed, many cops died before terrorists were caught)...

One more fact-USA sold 25(probably much more) of 50cal Barrett to AlQuaeda in 80s(You know 80s-funk,rap,Myke Tyson, but American friendship and cooperation with "new born" AlQuaeda also)
