If you do not know if you are ready, proceed with the installation anyway. If the installation fails because you need to install other software, the installation program will tell you what you need to do and additional information is provided in the installation troubleshooting section. Software Installation 1). Click on free trial link. GeoTours Mobile software is downloaded from secure servers at regnow.com ( a Digital River company). Click the free trial link to start the download process. Your computer will ask you whether to save or run the installation program. You want to save the installation program. 2). Save the installation program to your desktop. Of course you can save it elsewhere, just remember where you saved it. 3). Run the installation program. Now locate the program on your computer and double-click the program icon. Your computer may prompt you with a security warning, asking if you want to run the program. Run the program. If you are curious, the publisher is Geovative Solutions LLC (geovative.com). 4). Allow the installation program to download the setup program. The installation program must connect to the internet (DNS Server) in order to download the GeoTours Mobile setup program. Your computer may notify you that the program is attempting to connect. The installation program will be completed when you acknowledge the publisher on your mobile device. You may see a screen on your device which stats that "The program is from on unknown publisher." You must select "Yes" to continue the installation on your device. Program installation will be successful, assuming that you have .NET Framework installed and Windows CE Application installed. If the program does not install for these reasons, see the installation troubleshooting section below. Get Data Note: Use of data storage card (i.e. SD Card) is highly recommended for storing GPS tours on your mobile device. These instructions assume you have a storage card inserted in your mobile device. If you do not have a storage card, you may proceed with these instructions, taking note below. First, connect your windows mobile device to your computer, then: 1) Search TravelByGPS.com TravelByGPS.com provides GPS data for a variety of locations and appilications. Search TravelByGPS.com to find the data you are intersted in. 2) Download the GPS data in GPs eXchange (.gpx) or compressed (.zip) file format. Note: GPs eXchange (.gpx) files do not have imbeded auido and images. Tour guides that have audio and images are downloaded in (.zip) compressed file format which bundles the .gpx files with a data folder where the the image and audio files are located. GeoTours Mobile will play any gpx file, but if you want to experience all the features of this software you will want to download a tour guide that includes images and audio. All pages linked from travelbygps.com/TourGuide.php have downloadable tour guides that include images and audio. Click on the GPS data download link and save the file to your desktop. If you use Internet Explorer, look for the "Save as.." menu item under the "Page" tool. You may also right-click on the link to bring up the "Save as..." or "Save Target As..." menu items. If all you see is a page of what looks like computer code, that is probably the .gpx file, which you must save to your computer. Once you have the file saved to your computer, locate it and check the file type. If you downloaded a GPs eXchange (.gpx) file, make certain that it retained the .gpx file type extension when it was saved to your computer. If you downloaded a compressed (.zip) file you must extract the contents. If you downloaded a compressed (.zip) file, use WinZip or other decompression utility to extract the contents. Extract the contents of the zip file to your desktop. 3) Copy files to Mobile Device/Storage Card/GeoTours First, verify that you have, or create if necesary, a GeoTours folder on your storage card (see screenshot below), then: Locate the .gpx file you saved to your computer. Copy the .gpx file and data folder (if any). Paste all files on your mobile device/storage card. Below is a screenshot of Windows Explorer after copying files to mobile device. Note that .gpx files and data are located in the GeoTours directory. The GeoTours Mobile program settings are set to look for this directory on the storage card. If you do not have a storage card you can create a GeoTours directory on your device and change the settings from within the GeoTours program to look for GeoTours directory on your device instead of on your storage card. Eventually you will want a storage card. See the hardware page for storage cards offered at Amazon.com Playing Tours Once you have GeoTours on your device, you can launch the program to become familiar with the screens. The main screen is show here at right. You may view the other screens by pressing the "Next >" button, or use the touch screen to select the screens by their tabs: Main, Locations, Viewer, GPS, and Settings. To experience most of the program features, you will need to load a tour data. 1) Load Tour Touch the "Load Tour" button or select this command from the "File" menu. The trial version is restricted to loading only the first five (5) tour locations. The trial version also restricts the duration of audio to 15 seconds. When you purchase the software you will receive a licence code key to unlock all the features. Once you load a tour, the "Start Tour" button is enabled. 2) Start Tour Once you start a tour, AGeoTours Mobile connects to your GPS receiver and displays the distance and direction to each tour location. When you reach a tour location, the associated media (audio, image, and text) is displayed and the audio starts to play automatically. If there is a text description for the tour location, it can be viewed by clicking the more button. You can choose your units, location radius (proximity), media directory, if you want the device to prevent going into standby during a tour, if you'd like an audio alert to be played upon arriving at a non-audio tour location, and your GPS receiver settings. During a tour, you can view your GPS information on the GPS screen. Installation Troubleshooting Windows Mobile GeoTours Mobile was developed for PDAs and smartphones running Windows Mobile software.
