Hi,
I was wondering if there's a way to fool a symbian s60 v5 phone e.g Nokia n97 and 5800 XM into accepting s60 v3 apps? In other words, any workarounds? I'm scared I might damage my phone if I try.
Thanks.

Some apps work, others not.
look in s60v5 section you'll find compatible apps too, some apps are just for v3 some others just for v5.
If an app isnt compatible your phone will warn you during installation or will not work ,but nothing damaging, you install it ,you cant see it working and you uninstall it

Usually they work even if it warns that application is not compatible.
It won't damage your phone, it'll just tell you that it's not compatible.
