Default General question on hacking Wii

L.S.

I have a 1st gen Wii and are familiar with the presence of soft-mods on the wii.

My question, because I haven't found a good guide this far. Where can I find a good tutorial on steps to take in order to begin with Wiibrew of playing games for external HD.

Any help is appreciated.

With kind regards

Urawuzz

Hi Urawuzz!! Me too i have a First gen Wii, but believe me, having the first gen is better than having the latest one with the latest firmware!!
So let's start.
Since April, Wii H@ckers on the Internet found a Great way to h@ck the Nintendo Wii without the Twilight Method (As Everybody do not have the Zelda Game, it was very difficult to soft H@ck the Console)!!!!! This New H@ck is named BannerBomb!!!
I Made a Tutorial [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...] on how to achieve this exploit!!!

What you need

SD (or SDHC, only on system menu 4.0) card formatted as FAT16 or FAT32.
SD card reader for PC or a PC with one built-in
Bannerbomb channel data
Some homebrew to load (You can find some [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...])
For the first time, Download "aad1f_v108.zip" If that doesn't work, continue on to "aad20_v108.zip", etc [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]

Guide

-If your SD card has a private directory, rename it temporarily, e.g. to "privateold". Having other saved channels on the same card will screw it up. (Also, if you don't have any channels on the SD card already, it's possible to skip this step so you can keep saves on your SD card)
-Copy the Bannerbomb "private" folder to the root of your SD card.
-Take your Wii executable, name it "boot.dol" or "boot.elf" if it isn't already, and save it in the root directory of your SD card.
-Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
-Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Channels --> SD Card.
-A message should appear asking to "load boot.dol/.elf". If it freezes or does not appear, download the next .zip file from the Bannerbomb website and start over.
The homebrew on your SD card will load. Enjoy!
(Optional) Fill out Comex's survey on the [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...] website

This Guide will allow you to install the Homebrew channel on your wii and start Homebrew application like Playing DVDs, Music, Play Inported games (even if it's not your region) and Even Copy Backups and Load them from an external Source (HDD, USB, SD Card)

Try it and post your feedbacks.

It should be:
-Turn on your Wii.
-Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Channels --> SD Card, and then insert your SD card.

You should not insert the Bannerbomb card before going inside channels -> SD Card view.

Otherwise, great guide. Bannerbomb beats Zelda hack as it take some time to boot zelda etc. (I have Homebrew Channel since one year back, but still)...

Many thanks boemien & ToJa92, I'll start on this coming week and let you know how my progress went. Thanks again for the pointers!

I have HBC up and running. But there is some talk of downgrading ios35. Why?
and then there are pointer to install: cIOS38_rev13a:. why?

Please provide me with some insights into these steps. Is is because otherwise USB2 would not work - relevant for USB Loader?

Thanks

Yep!!! i had this issue too!!! the cIOS38 will install a custom IOS in your wii to permit you to install stuff as DVD player or USB Loader!!!
First, this is the cIOS38_rev13b Installer!!! Unzip the files with 7Zip (Sorry ) and copy the Folder in the folder Apps in your memory card!!! The installer can install the custom IOS automatically, if you have an internet Connection!!
if not, i have provided it under!!! It is illegal to share it so i can't upload it on the forum, you will have to download it on RAPIDSHARE!!!! I have made an all-in-one Pack!!!

LINK
The Following file is the cIOS, just extract the wad file and copy it to the root of your Memory card!!!
Now under the Homebrew channel, load the cIOS38_rev13b Installer and select wad installation!! Follow the instruction on screen!!

PS: First try the IOS38-64-v3610.wad. if there is an error message, then try IOS36_64_v1042.wad. Don't copy the two files on your memory card!!!
Post feedbacks and add REP to Toja92 and Me if you want!!!

Thanks for the link. What still confuses me that I already installed homebrew MPlayer CE and playback of a regular DVD works flawlessly already without the cIOS update. Would you happen to know any reference site of different cIOS. Some are talking about cIOS249.Ah just read what the 249 is where a IOS based on 36/38 can be installed.

I'm convinced I have to install this cIOS, but all the tutorials never tell what the Wii is lacking and why this cIOS249 has to be created.....bummer!

Hi Boemien,
I have one issue left. Should I downgrade to IOS35 before installing the waninkoko cIOS38 update OR should I just install the waninkoko update and I'm set.

I hope you can help. I do not see the point in first downgrading and then adding the cIOS of waninkoko
