Default Nintendo: core games are coming, but not til late 2009 at the earliest

Nintendo says that they are not ignoring their core gamers, even with the lack of core games on the Wii. Shigeru Miyamoto said that at E3 new Zelda and Mario games are being developed, and now it has been said that the games won't be out for a few years.
Because of the absence of games for the "core gamer" in E3, Nintendo was put under the spotlight. Has Nintendo abandoned its core community? The answer is a resounding "no."

Quote:
Back at E3, Shigeru Miyamoto himself explained that new Zelda and Mario games are in the works, but he didn't go much into detail about it. Now Nintendo has revealed that the "core games" in development - presumably the Zelda and Mario games Miyamoto was talking about - won't be out for a few more years:

We have never neglected our core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years.

These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams.

So don't fret it, core gamers, the games are coming. Maybe not in the near future, but they are coming. Take Satoru Iwata's word for it when he commented to Forbes last month:

If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means.

To be honest, has nintendo got anything to worry about? They lead the console and handheld markets and are doing what they said in going after a different type of gamer, the casual gamer. Although core gamers are important, they undertand that it takes a while to create a good 1st party game.

Actually, the X-box 360 and the PS3 have been steadily rising in the console wars, and there are some promising titles coming for both systems, like Little Big Planet and the new Final Fantasy.

I dunno, but Nintendo better get their act together, because mere gimmicks without proper content wont have the same effect as it had during their console initial stages.

I still dont know why they wont make a Smash Bros for the DS... It seems so logical and natural to me... Just look at the sucess of Jump Ultimate Stars!

Also, I would kill to see X-com and Heroes of Might and Magic on the DS, but thats just me
