This will work on any wii, including lu64+ models and any system menu version.
It also works with Wii's from the ntsc, pal, or nstc-j regions.
For those who are already softmodded and would like to try this guide to update your cIOS and whatnot, i actually recommend to update via Nintendo to get to a virgin 4.2. I mean, when it first came out, it was not recommended at all to update, only if you wanted a headache. But know with the new updated applications it's safe to say you can easily mod 4.2 wii's now. The only thing i recommend is for cIOScorp users wanting to update to 4.2 should install a clean IOS30 via DOP-IOS to avoid any problems with the hackmii installer.
This guide accomplishes the following:
1] Updates your wii to the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. The 3.x to 4.1 guide updates you to 4.1.
2] Installs the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] onto your wii.
3] Enables the trucha bug your Wii for homebrew to operate correctly.
4] Installs custom [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] 202 [USB 2.0 support], 222 & 223 [Hermes v4], 249 & 250 [Waninkoko rev14] to your wii.
5] Allows your Wii to play Wii backups through a backup loader, directly from the disc channel, and/or via usb.
6] Allows your Wii to play Gamecube backups through a backup loader or directly from the disc channel.
7] Play Wiiware and Virtual Console games off the sd card menu.

After Modding
Now at this point your almost done. Now you should be downloading the latest homebrew applications and setting them up on your SD Card so they can be launched via the Homebrew Channel. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] is a website that has information on the latest apps.
For downloading applications, you should:
1] Download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to get many popular apps and keep them up to date, but this is an online only application
2] For those without internet, check out this [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and get the latest emulators, media players, and utilities.
After getting whatever apps you want, you should get a boot.dol file and possibly a icon.png and meta.xml.
This file is basically the executable that runs the program on your Wii.
This boot.dol goes in a custom named folder in thefolder on the root of your SD Card.
For HBC to read your SD correctly, your card must be structured SD:apps/application name/boot.dol
Here is an example of thefolder on my SD Card
In every folder, there is a boot.dol, icon.png, and meta.xml.
For playing your disc backups, you should either:
1] Download NeoGamma and set it up on your SD card.
2] Download Softchip and set it up on your SD card.
3] Download CIOSCorp 3.4 [not recommended for novices] [[or at all by some people]] for playing games directly through the disc channel.
If you have a very new Wii and it fails to run DVD backups, you may have a drive with the new D3-2 chipset. They are incapable of reading dvd's of any sort. It can still play games via USB loaders though.
For playing your backups off a USB hard drive, check out the backup loading basics to learn about the different USB loaders and how to set up your Hard Drive correctly to install games.
FAQ
Before you go on to start questioning and whatnot, make sure your question is not answered underneath;
Is this safe for Lu64+ type model and up? [65,66,etc.]
Yeah so long as you dont downgrade the firmware of your Wii. IOS15 is the only thing that can be safely downgraded to enable the Trucha Bug to be restored on IOS36, then the original IOS15 is put back in place.
How the best secure is a LU64+ Wii models from brick? BootMii is installed in IOS and Preloader its' all?
Yeah just make a NAND Backup and your safe from the most common bricks.
Never uninstall any IOS or System Menu.
I get an error when downgrading ios15. TRB finds my 266 and 257 versions, but fails to install ticket. i get an error 1035, could not set the revision to 0. what does that mean?
Skip the trucha bug step and start on the CIOS REv14 installer step.
I followed your guide and managed to get the corrupted memory error message.
If your getting the "serious looking"just start preloader by holding the reset button while turning on your Wii. Go to settings and change your IOS from 60 to 30 [or vice versa.] Restart again if change IOS back to 60 if it still doesn't work.
It boots up to the Bootmii Menu instead of the Main Menu, how to solve this?
Rename the Bootmii folder or save it elsewhere.
I already have the Homebrew Channel installed, where do I start?
If you also already have Bootmii installed and a NAND backup, then start on the Trucha Bug Restorer steps. If you don't, I suggest you start from the beginning so you can have more protection and less chance of an error.
Preloader doesn't see my hacks.ini file. I know its supposed to be on the root of the SD Card. Help?
You are using a SDHC SD Card. You have to use a non-sdhc sd card for this part.
I have Preloader installed on my 4.1u Wii, I want to update IOS60 using DOP-IOS. do i need to change preloader's settings or anything before doing this?
No just reinstall Preloader after.
To update from 3.4U to 4.1U I only need IOS60 and System Menu 4.1?
Yeah, basically. Although certain games need certain IOS's updated to run properly.
Is CIOSCORP ok for LU64+
Yes, make sure you use the newest version.
I try to start HBC, all i get is a black screen.
Reinstall it with the Hackmii installer.
Do I need Bootmii or Preloader installed?
Do you like bricks?
Why install a Custom IOS?
Many homebrew apps require them and it installs extra features to your Wii.
I try installing Preloader .29 but it says "Failed to get root, current ios36 has the fakesign bug fixed, help?
You didn't use Trucha Bug Restorer correctly. Do those steps over.
I have tried different WAD Manager versions and I always get the -2011 error.
You do not have the trucha bug, follow the steps above.
Bannerbomb freezes/does not work on me everytime.
Update through the settings and try again.
Can I delete the Trucha Bug Restorer,CIOSrev14, WAD manager etc folders after the installation so only Neogamma folder remains inside?
Yes they are only used to mod once.
I have a modchip installed will that affect anything this mod does?
your mod chip is there solely for playing dvd backups through the disc channel. It does not affect anything else whatsoever.
Is it possible to follow everything from start to the end and apply hacks on already hacked system without any harm and without prior virginizing the Wii?
Yes, everyone should start from the beginning, anything previously installed will be overwritten.
Does 3.X system require Waninkoko's 4.0 upgrade in your guide before running 4.1 upgrade?
No, but its recommended to run 4.0 first then 4.1 because in some cases the IOS's won't properly update.
I have Bootmii installed as Boot2, I'd like to use Startpatch4.1 instead of Preloader0.29, do you think it is a good idea?
It's a good idea as you still have brick protection. the only things you'll lose is the ability to choose which IOS to load the system menu from, install a autobooting .dol file, choose what to start up to [hbc or system menu], and other minor things.
i want to know how to install the backup launcher app (NeoGammaR7) as a channel can you help me?
First find the .wad you want to use as a channel then install via WAD manager 1.4 or 1.5
Then find out what type of channel it is. There are 2 types of channels, forwarders and full channels. forwarders search on the sd card or usb device for the boot.dol, depends on the channel, while full channels have a version of the boot.dol injected.
when i start the process by loading boot.dol from the SD card, it says to hit 1 to continue. At this point its just stuck, wont let me hit 1.
try updating first with the 4.0 updater then 4.1 updater if online, or get the system menu wad from NUSD if your not.
i can't acess my shop channel... it boots me back to the main menu
Reinstall IOS61 via DOP-IOSv7.
