Looks like you’ll need a DS to make the most of Nintendo’s Wii, but it’ll be worth it – the games goliath has some great ideas in store for both consoles!
Nintendo big cheese, Satoru Iwata, has got us all weak at the knees after showing off a DS console taking charge of the Wii, providing yet another innovative route to game play.
The global president showed the touchscreen handheld letting players of the new Pokemon Battle control characters in their hands, while the Wii pumps action onto the big screen in 3D loveliness.
We already know the Wii will link up with the DS to funnel game demos into the handheld, but now it looks like Nintendo wants to widen that link, throwing games and possibly web browsing into the mix.
The Wii will ship with Opera’s web browser installed, but navigation of web pages using the Wiimote has always seemed a strange mix. Could the DS’s touch screen solve the text-input mystery and open the Wii up to yet more online activities?
We reckon so, and it’s not the first time Nintendo has teathered two consoles together. It’s a similar move to the tie up of the Game Boy Advance and Gamecube, which unlocked special features in games like Zelda: Wind Waker.
