    Arrow Nokia 6680

The Nokia 6680 is the 3G phone from Nokia. Being 3G means that it has dual camera (on the back as well as front). Please note that there is no official confirmation from Nokia about this handset as of now. But those of you who have a habit of hanging about the forums will be knowing about this handset. The 6680 has set hearts afire with its huge screen and camera lens protected by slider (reminds you of 7650). I like the slider part, looks smart and is really good at protecting the lens. The 6680 will sport the new Series 60 User Interface (perhaps you have heard of this one as well, it will be 3D. No idea what that means yet, but I guess it will be pretty impressive just going by Nokias track record. I also think that the 6680 is probably being saved as the grand finale for the CeBit in Germany where it is routine for the handset manufacturers to announce scores of new phones every year.

Subsequently it is a matter of rivalry to showcase the handset generating the most interest. Last year it was the MPX, perhaps 2005 will belong to Nokia with the 6680. The 6680 will be on up on the curently popular 6630 with better processing power and memory.

    The More Details
Under the tentative data for the 2Q 2005 Nokia plans to start shipments of the top-end model Nokia 6680 equipped with two digital cameras.

At the moment we get the info that Nokia 6680 will be positioned above Nokia 6630 in the line, however it looks rather like Nokia 6670 than Nokia 6630.

Besides the new slider 3G phone powered by Series 60 will be equipped with two integrated digital cameras - one on the front panel, the other on the back panel. The handset supports the transfer of live video during phone talks and displays 3D graphics, it might enable GUI control and menu navigation.

To add, Nokia 6680 will be listed at some €650. Nokia pays much attention to the promotion of this top-end model, so it has registered a special domain NOKIA6680.COM (but it's not yet active).
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

A mock-up of the Nokia 6680, of which there have been rumors flying around the past month, has been leaked on mobile.cz.

The 6680 is rumored to be the next 3G phone from Nokia, which will probably run the new generation of the Series60 platform which integrated the functions from the now defunct Series90 platform. The 6680 will also be the first Nokia 3G mobile which will have a user-facing camera. The fantastic Nokia 6630, aka Charlie, only had a camera that faced away from the user making video-calls impossible without using a separate cradle. For now, there are no confirmed specs for the phone but it’s a safe assumption that it will have the usual features of a Symbian Series60 Nokia phone.

What’s most interesting is the fact that this phone has a user-facing camera. In the past, Nokia seemed to be shunning Mobile Video-Calls since every 3G mobile Nokia has ever produced hasn't been built for Video-Calls. Has Nokia found new confidence in the future of Video-Calls? Or are they only providing the extra camera so as to match the competition from other 3G mobiles?

    Hey,

You will not find prices as yet for it as it's not available to buy.
It is still in testing and very much a prototype, but has been talked about on a lot of forums so looks to be a go for production.

Sometime this year will be the release to my knowledge.

O2 confirms Nokia 3G phone - before Nokia
Allright so we haven’t actually seen one and Nokia still isn’t acknowledging that it exists, but O2 in the UK today announced it would be first network to sell the new Nokia 3G handset, the 6680.

The company promised that the model, Nokia's first to boast two cameras and therefore offer full video calling facilities, would be in the stores soon after it launches its 3G consumer service on February 1st. Naturally we don’t believe O2, especially after the press office failed to furnish us with a pic.

Nevertheless we have a very good experience with the Nokia 6630 3G phone on Vodafone, and like the look of the 6680. Still can’t see us making any video calls though. The only other stuff we know about the 6680 is that it has Series 60 interface like the 6630, features a 1.3 mega pixel camera and, rumour has it, a 3D menu system.

It has been designed to support new advanced functionalities such as stereo audio, fast data connectivity and digital accessory identification. Pop-Port will radically expand the choice of ground-breaking and interesting accessories for the Orange Nokia 6680.

    Triple band

    Thumbs up

    Nokia Introduces 6101, 6680, 6681 Phones

Nokia introduces three phones at 3GSM:

The Nokia 6101 imaging phone is a stylish, folding GSM phone based on Series 40 Developer Platform 2.0. It features a VGA camera, two full-color displays, and an easy-to-use menu structure. The Nokia 6101 phone also introduces a feature called Nokia Xpress audio messaging, which lets a user record and send voice messages over a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network; once the message has been received by another user, it can be stored in the phone and played later. The Nokia 6101 phone will sell for about 250 euros, and deliveries are set to begin in the second quarter.

The Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is based on the Series 60 Platform and Symbian OS. It's a quad-band phone for GSM, Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE), and Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) networks that offers seamless roaming in more than 100 countries. The phone features two cameras (one VGA, the other a 1.3-megapixel camera), photo flash, and a 262,144-color screen. The user selects one or the other camera by moving a sliding cover. Smartphone features include an organizer, a Web browser, and streaming video. 3G-enabled features include two-way video calling, video sharing, and always-on e-mail. The Nokia 6680 smartphone will sell for about 500 euros, and shipments are set to begin in March.

The Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone is based on the Series 60 Platform and Symbian OS. It's a tri-band phone for GSM and EDGE networks that's designed to be both feature-rich and easy to use. The phone features a 1.3-megapixel camera, easy printing with the Nokia XpressPrint solution, and support for e-mail with attachments. The Nokia 6681 smartphone will ship in April and sell for about 450 euros.

The three new devices bring the number of Nokia phones based on the Series 40 Platform, Series 60 Platform, or Series 80 Platform to more than 70.

    Nokia 6681 and Nokia 6682

Nokia has officially announced the Nokia 6681, a tri-band EDGE phone with the now-standard 1.3-megapixel camera, as well as a very nice 262k-color screen. Billed as an 'imaging phone,' most of the multimedia features center around smart software that can do things like adjust white balance or tweak color balance—nothing revolutionary, and certainly nothing that would be as effective as a higher-resolution sensor or a real, honest-to-god optical zoom.

Update: There's also stereo music playback (finally) as well as push-to-talk capability. And they share the sliding camera door of the 6680.

The 6681 will be available in April in Europe for around €450 (unsubsidized), but a North American model, the 6682, is on the way, too.

And in case you haven't put this all together, it's 3GSM in Cannes today—expect tons of phone news (but lots of other stuff, too!)
