Exclamation Simple Guide to setting up Garmin Mobile XT on S60 and WM

Because there seems to be a bit of confusion about getting Garmin Mobile XT running on S60 phones I have written this very easy guide below. (updated on september 09)
In few minutes you'll be able to use Garmin on your phone, if you have problems pm [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]

How to Download and install/upgrade Garmin Mobile XT for S60 and activate.

This information is provided as is for informational purposes only. I take no responsibility for any of your actions or consequences as a result of using this guide.

Before you begin, uninstall any version of Garmin Mobile XT you may have on your S60 device.

INSTALLING:

1. Download the latest full version available on this forum. Currently this is 5.00.60 and is available here. (ENG CH TW lang)
[Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]

or if you need a multilanguage version this one: v.5.00.50

[Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]

This is an exe file . You must connect your phone to your pc in transfer mode run the exe and it will install garmin on your phone

then install basemaps( exe file, same than before with garmin exe, transfer mode)
Code:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3645
then install support files ( exe file, same than before with garmin exe, transfer mode)
Code:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3493
then run sis file from your phone (GarminMobileXT.sis) should be in E (your mmc)

[If you prefere plug&play version
Place the memory card from your S60 device in a memory card reader, or connect your phone to your computer so that it appears as a removable drive on your PC. Remove any pre-existing Garmin directory, after backing up any data, maps you may wish to keep. I'd recommend a 1GB memory card as a minimum.

Extract the Garmin directory with all its subfolders onto the root of your memory card.
Using the file manager (x-plore) on your phone, navigate into the Garmin directory and run the GarminMobileXT.sis file. This will install Garmin Mobile XT on your phone. ]

If you have a FP2 phone, see the notes below.*

2.Copy the map file for your region into the root of the Garmin directory. If it is a locked map, you will need the Map ID # later. You should have got the Map ID with the map.

3. Now that Garmin Mobile XT is installed, the next step is to unlock it and any locked maps you have with it.
Run Garmin Mobile XT
click on "Begin Free Trial" and just cancel it. Then you'll see 4 options

(Purchase & Go!, Begin Free Trial, Enter Product Key and Connect to a Garmin GPS), click on Connect to a Garmin GPS. Then it will try to search for a GPS device. (thanks crispykrispy) Cancel any requests for a GPS unit as this will not work until you have unlocked the software.

4. Download JetMouse's кεygεn from here [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]

and run it. In your Garmin application go to SETTINGS - ABOUT and copy the Card ID unto the Unit ID field.
(If you want you can use also IMEI to UnitID Converter 1.0 0
here: [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...] ), but I think it's almost inuseful, so go to ABOUT

Generate a key and write this down. If you are using locked maps, do the same at the bottom with the MAP ID number of the map you are using.

5.Connect your unit as a removable drive again and open (or create with notepad if you dont have it already in your Garmin folder) the SW.UNL file in Notepad. Paste the CARD ID unlock code in. Resave the file. If you are using locked maps, open( or create) GMAPSUPP.UNL with Notepad and paste in the map unlock code. You should now have unlocked software .(caution! no txt ext , control with x-plore (LonelyCatGames X-plore) coz you cant see it in windoz .When you save the .UNL file in Notepad, be sure you set the "Save as type" to "All Files", not "Text Documents". )

Now we have this tool to create your SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL
[Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]

6. Start up Garmin Mobile XT and navigate to SETTINGS - SYSTEM - REMOTE GPS.

You should now have the ability to change this to internal GPS if you have a handset which has this feature. Otherwise it is a matter of playing around with your Bluetooth GPS unit until you get things running. The first time Garmin needs some minutes to get the satellites, be patient please, if you have a N95 keep your slide open and your phone upside down till he gets the satellites ,If you cannot get the GPS settings to change in GMXT, then try unlocking the software and unit again, you havent followed the guide step by step....it's easy!
Enjoy
all the maps you need here

*Notes.
If you have a FP2 phone, I would recommend running the Garmin update to Mobile XT 5.00.60
You will also need to run the new installer file located at \Garmin\Apps\Symbian\res\GarminMobileXT.sis rather then the one in the root of the folder.

Hi Cat,

Do we need to uninstall the older version before installing the latest one? Can we still use the "old" TSupportFiles?

Thanks for your answer(s).

Cheers

if I have 2 maps: Canada & North America... how do I get them both to work? Actually, better yet, how do I tell Garmin XT which one to use?
I got both on my phone and I used the correct filenames (I think?) but I don't see any options around to "choose map" that Garmin should use...?
