World Factbook .The United States has carried on foreign intelligence activities since the days of George Washington, but only since World War II have they been coordinated on a government-wide basis. The CIA World Factbook is one of three programs that have highlighted the development of coordinated basic intelligence since that time.The World Factbook includes information on 271 countries, territories and other areas, with full-color maps and flags.What's new:
Updated 1/10/06: Definitions for each entry type have been added, and elongated maps have been rotated for maximum readability.
In the Economy category, the Factbook is now reporting national GDP figures in US dollars converted at Official Exchange Rates (OER) in addition to GDP at Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) rates, since both measures contain information useful to our readers. Traditionally, only PPP-converted GDP values have been reported.
In the Transportation category, the former Highways entry is now Roadways, while Ports and harbors has been retitled Ports and terminals.Each country listing includes:
