What’s the point?
Fly through your phone and make mincemeat of menus by mastering wizard-like shortcut keys and the dark art of key codes.
Is it free?
Free as the wind blows, as free as the grass grows.
Sold! How do I do it?
Step 1: Nokias have shortcuts on their standby screen. Swap ’em around by heading to ‘Tools,’ ‘Settings,’ ‘General’ and ‘Personalisation’. Dive into ‘Standby mode’ and make your phone happy by making sure ‘Active Standby’ is switched on.
Now you’re phone’s set to show its shortcuts you can change them around by heading to ‘Active standby apps’. You can add new shortcuts, delete ones you don’t want or juggle the order they’re in.
Step 2: Head back out to the ‘Standby’ screen and tap ‘Shortcuts’. Here you can change what happens when you hit the left and right selection buttons on the standby screen.
Step 3: Not enough shortcuts for ya? Head to any menu and you can use the number pad to choose an icon in the corresponding position. Hit ‘1’ and the icon in the top left will be picked, tap ‘0’ and the middle icon on the bottom row gets your attention – easy.
Step 4: There’s also a shortcut to remove items from your phone. Hit the ‘C’ key to delete almost anything. It works on texts, contacts and will even uninstall selected apps in seconds.
Step 5: Need a code from your phone? Bash *#06# into its keypad from the standby screen and it’ll spit back its IMEI code. Make a note of it and it’ll help speed up the network’s lockdown of your handset if it’s ever stolen. Prod *#0000# to see what software version your phone’s using – you’ll need it to see if it’s worth trying Nokia’s updates.
