    Cool Ponsel 3G Linux Pertama Dibanderol Kurang dari Rp 1 Juta

    Jakarta - Untuk pertama kalinya, sebuah ponsel 3G berbasis Linux bakal diluncurkan. Pembuatnya adalah perusahaan semikonduktor independen Belanda, NXP Semiconductors yang bekerja sama dengan Purple Labs, sebuah suplier ternama asal Perancis.

    Ponsel ini dijanjikan akan dibanderol dengan harga 'cukup miring', yakni di bawah US$ 100 atau kurang dari Rp 1 juta. Namun, kemampuan ponsel ini diklaim tak kalah dengan ponsel 3G pada umumnya, seperti mampu menyajikan video conference, video streaming, browsing dan pemutar musik.

    Nama yang akan digunakan untuk ponsel 3G berbasis Linux ini ketika dilempar ke pasar adalah 'Purple Magic'. Ponsel ini bahkan digadang-gadang dibuat sebagai sebuah desain rujukan bagi para produsen yang ingin menciptakan piranti 3G pada level pemula ataupun yang memiliki target pasar di Eropa Timur, Amerika Latin dan Asia Tenggara.

    "Kami ingin menampilkan keunggulan dari software open source," ujar Dan Rabinovitsj, Senior Vice President and General Manager Cellular Business NXP Semiconductors, seperti dikutip detikINET dari Softpedia, Selasa (5/2/2008).

    Direncanakan, ponsel ini akan hadir untuk pertama kalinya dalam acara konferensi 3GSM yang berlangsung di Barcelona, Spanyol pada 11-14 Februari 2008.
