    * Alcohol may initially help you fall asleep, but it also causes disturbances in sleep resulting in less restful sleep
    * Experts recommend reading a book, listening to soothing music or soaking in a hot bath.
    * If you need to make up for a few lost hours, opt for a daytime nap rather than sleeping late.
    * While taking a nap can be a great way to recharge, especially for older adults, it can make insomnia worse.

I do not have insomnia, and enjoy an afternoon 1 hour nap. I also eat dinner early, around 6 to 7pm, I do wake up around the same time, and take a daily walk.

Bright light can inhibit sleep, so the dimmer switch off or turn on the lights an hour or two before going to sleep. Access to and use of the sun
Bright light during the day can also help the body regulate its sleep Pattern.
