Rumor retracted: "iPhone 1.1.4" an excuse to stop developing
Last Friday, the Internet was all a-flutter over rumors of an upcoming iPhone 1.1.4 firmware release. The rumors were started by a statement from iPhone development site Tiny Code, which said it had discontinued its iPhone application repository because it was working with Apple. Today, a Tiny Code developer named KellyTM revealed in a post on the MacRumors forum that the whole story was a lie, and offered an apology to Apple and iPhone developers.
 Actually, it's not all a lie: the part about the repository being discontinued is true. Basically, Tiny Code wanted to stop publishing the iPhone repository, so the firmware 1.1.4 "joke" was concocted, since it "seemed like a good one at the time." However, the company never had access to a new firmware, and was never working with Apple. As part of his explanation, KellyTM apologized to Apple for any confusion he may have caused, and to developers for any future problems they may have getting advance access to firmwares and code from Apple. Although the joke obviously was made for a pretty lame reason, the truth might be a bit more palatable for some people. If there's no 1.1.4 firmware in the alpha stages, the SDK and application delivery system are probably further along and anyone with an unlocked or jailbroken iPhone probably won't have to repeat the process all over again.
