Nokia Issues BL-5C Battery Overheating Advisory
News by Michael Oryl (editor) on Tuesday August 14, 2007. Nokia has issued an advisory regarding 46 million Nokia branded BL-5C batteries that were made by Matsushita (Panasonic) of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. The company claims that other battery models and those made at other times are not affected. Nokia says that the batteries in question can overheat during charging and 'dislodge', which we assume must mean that there is some sort of physical event, though the company is careful to not use the word 'explode.' Nokia claims that there have been about 100 incidents of problems with faulty batteries so far. In all cases, the company says, problems occurred while the battery was being charged. The company also claims that no serious injuries or damage has been caused so far. The Nokia BL-5C battery can be found packaged with the following models of Nokia phones: 1100, 1100c, 1101, 1108, 1110, 1112, 1255, 1315, 1600 2112, 2118, 2255, 2272, 2275, 2300, 2300c, 2310, 2355, 2600, 2610, 2610b, 2626 3100, 3105, 3120, 3125 6030, 6085, 6086, 6108, 6175i, 6178i, 6230, 6230i, 6270, 6600, 6620, 6630, 6631, 6670, 6680, 6681, 6682, 6820, 6822 7610 N70, N71, N72, N91 E50, E60 If you own one or more Nokia BL-5C batteries that might be affected by the recall, you can check the Battery Identification Number of each suspect battery at the bottom of the Nokia battery replacement website. Affected batteries will be replaced free of charge by Nokia and Matsushita. SOURCE: [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...]
