Hi everyone,
This is for awareness of all who may be going for a new broadband connexion in India. I have recently subscribed to the broadband service of BSNL over phone line (technically called ADSL). Phone can be used simultaneously. The company gives 2 types of modems - Type-I modem which links into your LAN card and Type-II which in addition to the LAN connection gives you a wi-fi connection. The cost difference is Rs 600/= only. One with laptop should go for the wi-fi modem as it would work even if you are not using the LAN Card. You can of course use the LAN card option in laptop, at the cost of mobility. Those with both desktop & laptop, can plug in the cable in desktop LAN card and surf over desktop, as well as do wifi surfing on the laptop. More than 2 people can simultaneously browse- one over the LAN (desktop/Laptop) and the others on laptop. Another great advantage is setting up of wireless LAN connection between your old desktop & Laptop, thus giving you an aproach into your old files from your laptop. The speed have been upgraded to 2 Mbps, which gives great surfing speed on the laptop over wi-fi as well as ethernet port. The combined modem is extremely cost effective than going in for a wifi router. Hope it useful for some. |
