Thumbs up Selectable maps with same FID possible?

I have made two separate mapsets from CN NA 2011.30:

    A very small "local" map
    A very large "everything" map

I would like to use the local map by itself when not travelling out of area, and use the everything map when travelling (the point being it would speed up processing while using the smaller mapset). Since these mapsets have the same FID, they are grouped together on the map info page, with only one selection box. Is there a way I can change the FID on one of the maps and still have it function normally? Or is there another way? Moving a 1.3GB file at 500KBps back and forth is not a favorable option...

    Thanks

I'm sure the FID could be change but I've no experience with that though. Anyway, this is not the only, nor the best, option but this is what I've done with an older nuvi 200 which has very limited internal memory making it very hard to accommodate the whole CNNANT2011.30 mapset. Thus, I've placed the local/regional mapset into the internal memory as gmapprom.img--7 map tiles amounting to about 81.2MB. I then placed the remaining CNNANT2011.30 mapset (140 map tiles amounting to about 1.2GB) onto a 2GB SD card as gmapsupp.img. The card could be removed when traveling locally for faster processing but I leave it in all the time nowadays. This approach serves the exact intention you have in mind. FYI.

I stand corrected... thanks catymag . Although I've never tried but I'd mistakenly thought that GmapTool could be used to alter the FID of an img file?

You can't, there is only the posibility to set FID for files for Mapsource, Mapsource doesn't check whetever fid is in the map, if it's the same as in the img.
FID for mapsource is in tdb .

May be look at this :
    Code:
    http://vak255.narod.ru/****tils.htm#TDBchanger
It's needed first to convert CN from gmap to old format.

Is hex editing the img file an option? I'm not worried about mapsource, just the image. Just thinking here, but the unlock key is probably tied to the FID. Could I change the FID on the image and calculate a new key based on the FID I assign? Or is there more to it?

Try FIDfinder at the same link, you will need new unlock code for new FID or use an unlocker

On a Nuvii 1490T I added several maps to the microSD card in \Map directory. Two maps were produced by the same person. They were added with separate names, but are added under the one entry and hence they can not individually be selected or unselected. If anyone knows what is the critical factor that puts them in the same group, it would be appreciated.
