Q:International Mobile Equipment Identity is of use when or if the mobile gets stolen. -----------------------------------------
A:Whenever you put a new sim in ur mobile and it asks for signals from the network from the service provider, your IMEI number is send with ur request and whenever someone tries to use a sim in ur stolen mobile the service providers can trace the number and the user.
------------------------------------------
Remember you need your IMEI number,
*#06# displays the IMEI number on your phone screen, or uf you didn't note it before it was stolen, it should be in the side of the box your mobile came in. But the amount of users who throw their boxes away and can't blacklist the handset is amazing! I think there should be some publicity campaign for IMEI awareness

so
Whenever you purchase a mobile phone do get a bill and get it insured(most dealers are providing it for free). this way your IMEI number will be with you to track ur mobile if lost or stolen and secondly you can claim for the insurance in that case.
